Massachusetts places historic limit on families seeking homeless shelter

All MASH sober homes meet national standards based on the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) model. We welcome new guests who are committed to living a life of continued sobriety. Applicants must be over 18 years old and haven’t used drugs or alcohol within 14 days. Guests are ofter referred from treatment or other clinical or judicial settings, but many guests self-refer to our homes. Sober homes screen guests for alcohol and drugs, enforce house rules and curfew, and each guest holds their brothers and sisters accountable.

Staff Qualification

The restrictions may include no access to a phone or computer, no contact with family members, and a curfew during this phase. They provide a structured substance-free living arrangement for persons in recovery who must obey the facility’s rules, contribute to house costs, and perform any assigned responsibilities.However, both programs differ in numerous ways. The difference in both programs includes the cost of entering into the program, program duration, exiting the program, ownership, cost of staying in the program, living conditions, and staff qualification.

• Legislation in 2014 created voluntary certification of Massachusetts sober homes, and MASH began managing voluntary statewide sober home certification in 2016.
• Residents stay until they are confident in their ability to thrive in the real world without a relapse.
• Affordable housing applications are complicated, waitlists are long, and there are simply too few truly affordable apartments to go around.
